Fake-Isle Hat

So when I'm in the knitting doldrums, the best thing to do is start a new project!! LOL. I've been wanted to try a two color project for a while, and this hat seemed like the perfect choice. It will be for my dad for Fathers Day.

I used Noro Kureyon color 150 and KnitPicks WOTA Onyx Heather. It was a very quick knit and really quite easy. I think I'll try more of these - maybe with just 2 solid colors instead of the Noro - since I have several more hats on my "need to knit" list.

My technique still needs a little work (it's a bit tight where the two color stranding is), but I'm pleased with the results. I just wish the two colors weren't so similar in places. But it's nice and warm and I think Dad will like it!

Two takers so far...

I've had 2 brave souls step up to the PIF challenge; Dawn and Kate.

Dawn is a stamper/papercrafter, so I will knit up something fabulous for her. I'm currently thinking this scarf in a red Wool-Ease.

Kate is a knitter/crocheter, so I'm thinking a pack of note cards. Possibly some monogrammed cards, or just a pack of all occasion cards - birthday, baby, thinking of you, etc. Maybe using the Little Ladies set from Papertrey inc?? So many cute ways to use that set. Here's one of my favorites. (And yes, I know lady bugs aren't blue, but I just love how it looks anyway!)

There's still room for one more person! You too could receive a lovely (at least I hope so!) handmade item from me!!

Knitting blah's and a giveaway!!

I'm in the knitting doldrums. It happens, I'll recover. I think it's because I have lots of thing I *have* to knit, not necessary things I *want* to knit. (Like the pesky apple dishcloths for DS' teachers. One is done but I have three more to go. Bleah.)

And on to the giveaway. Ravelry has a group participating in a "Pay it Forward" with handmade items. So here's the deal. The first three people who leave a comment on this post will receive a handmade item made by me. It may be knit, it might not. Depends on how much time I have. But there's a catch - there's always a catch isn't there?? If you comment that you would like to receive an item, you need to PIF to three more people. (My PIF is coming from Keith, in case you might be wondering.) I think this is a nice way to spread a little kindness into the blog-o-sphere. So come on......make a comment......you know you want to!!

Mr Greenjeans finished!

So I lost a little steam with this sweater, but it's now finished and I LOVE IT!! There is nothing worse than spending all the time to knit a sweater and not liking the finished product.

I made this one out of Malabrigo wool, purchased at Double Ewe. The color is called Blue Surf (color #28) and it so soft and snuggly. When it was done, I went on a quest for a button. Not just *any* button, the perfect button. I found this beauty at All About Yarn. They have a great button selection. I just wish that I had made it earlier in the year since I won't have many chances to wear it for awhile.

So right now, I have a pair of toe-up socks, a baby kimono sweater, and the dreaded fuzzy blue cable sweater on the needles. I think the sweater will go into hibernation for the summer so I can concentrate on more socks. It's just getting too hot to knit a sweater. (That and I just realized that I have socks yarn for 6 pairs of socks.....time to get knitting!)

Whew....

So I decided on Monday that I would make gifts for my DD's preschool teachers for the end of the year. That doesn't seem like a big deal until you realize that the end of the year was TUESDAY!! I *very* quickly searched on Ravelry and picked a quick knit dishcloth with an apple motif. I've never knit dishcloths before, so this was a new experience for me. Each one ended up taking about 1.5 hours to knit - not bad. But I rarely get to knit uninterrupted, so they took all day! Thankfully I did have some cotton yarn in my stash, but the colors left a bit to be desired. Oh well.

I also made some quick monogrammed note cards - a set of 6 for each teacher. I made them all the same, just used different patterned paper and ink colors. I think they look pretty good.

Now I just need to make 4 more sets of dishcloths/note cards for DS's teachers. At least I have until June to make those.

Noro Hat

I received my shipment from Little Knits yesterday. After I oooohhhh'ed and aahhhhhh'ed over the Noro, I decided I *had* to knit something with it. I checked out Ravelry for some quick patterns. About three hours later I had this! It fits my husband perfectly (but my 5 year old is modeling it.) I have 3 more balls of it. I may make more of this hat, but I have a few other patterns I'd like to try.

I've also been working on these super bright socks. I saw this Astra yarn in the isle at Joann's and I bought it on a whim. I figured I make socks. I mean, you can never have too many socks, right? I cast on on Saturday and I just couldn't stop smiling. I just love how the colors are working up. So darn cute!

And I'm nearing completion of my second Mr Greenjeans sweater. I only have one sleeve and the button band to complete, but I've run out of steam. I should know better then to make the same sweater twice in the span of a month. I do love it, but I'm just a wee bit sick of it. I'm hoping that by taking the breaks to knit the hat and socks I can recharge and finish it soon.

Ravelry Knit Night

I went to my first Ravely NW Burbs knit night and had a blast. After spending nearly 3 hours in a room with adults, I realized that I need to get out of my house more often. I babbled like an idiot! It was such a treat to talk to other adults about things other than my children (although they were discussed too.)

As for my knitting, I have turned the heel of Mom's second sock; I'm hoping to finish them this weekend. I'm also coming along nicely with my Malabrigo Mr Greenjeans. I have about 5-6 more sets of cable repeats before the main body is finished. Then on to the sleeves and it's done! Now I have to decide which of my many projects I'm going to start next!!

I placed a *small* order with Little Knits this week. I'm diving into the world of Noro and planning to make a few of these hats. Wish me luck as I've never knit two-stranded before.
